The clearances, in particular, encouraged migration of Celtic peoples to Nova Scotia, East coast and Appalacian America, New Zealand, Australia and Patagonia, while a substantial population of Celtic peoples remained in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Brittany. Ar Dachaigh Ceilteach means ‘Our Celtic Home’ in Gàidhlig.
